Huge Toyota recall

For years Toyota has been denying any problems with the windows in their Corolla line. What the car would do is roll up the windows as the motor would continue to turn. The doors would lock, and the window motor would catch on fire, locking the passengers in a flaming tomb of plastic and sheet metal. How did Toyota fix this problem? They would back convert your electric windows to those with a hand crank, effectively removing an option the consumer paid for. The other option was "keep a hammer in your car so you can break a window should this happen." A bullshit cop-out.

Toyota will recall 539,500 Corolla and Matrix vehicles for the 2003 and 2004 model years, it said in a statement. GM said it would recall 122,598 Pontiac Vibe hatchbacks, which share the same platform with Toyota's Matrix.
