Review Tuesday: I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE [2010] unrated

I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE
2010
UNRATED
After a violent rape, a woman seeks revenge.
With all this quarantine stuff going on, I have been working from home. I actually work MORE daily than ever. In an effort to decompress, the wife and I call Saturday night DATE NIGHT. We will have some junk food, and watch a movie. This week she selected I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE. This is a remake of the 1978 movie with the same title. Amazon listed it under horror, which happens to be her favorite genre, so why not?

Jennifer Hills (Sarah Butler) is a writer who decides to retire to a quiet backwater town for a couple months to work on her next story. Young and beautiful, she accidentally attracts the wrong attention of some terrible men in town. One night a group of five men invaded her cabin to torment, torture, and violently rape her. If that wasn't horrific enough, their plan was to kill her and dispose of the body to keep it all a secret. Only it all goes south when she escapes by jumping into a river and evades her violators.

The rest of her film is Jennifer getting her revenge.

We never saw the original movie form 1978, nor the Rated Cut versions. This cut is shot well, and builds suspense. It's also incredibly disturbing. Multiple times while watching this movie we asked one another, "What did we put on?" The rape scene is harsh and hard to watch the inhumanity of it all. Regardless of how horribly the rapists meet their ends, it never affects you like the rape scene.

This was a hard one to watch. We didn't hate it, but I can't say we really liked it either. It was provocative to say the least. We stayed up a couple hours discussing it afterwards.
