Review Tuesday: The Taking of Deborah Logan (2014) / The Taking (original title)

The Taking of Deborah Logan
The Taking (original title)
While a camera crew records Deborah Logan's descent into Alzheimer's Disease, strange things start to occur.
This is considered a "found footage film" despite the fact that this is supposed to have been a documentary that ends up going sideways. But I suppose this is the nature of the animal. Anything that has what's normally considered "behind the scenes" and a shaky camera is all considered found footage.

This was another flick that Mrs Bax0jayz selected during quarantine. When it first started, it took a little while to really get started. The film crew is paying a family, an elderly woman named Deborah Logan (brilliantly played by Jill Larson)  and her daughter Sarah (Anne Ramsay) to document how a family deals with a member as she contends with Alzheimer's Disease. Several times during the beginning of the film I asked my wife Are you SURE this is a horror movie? It looks really depressing to me! But she assured me found it in the horror section of AMAZON. Okay...

Of course, it DID pick up. The old lady says and does curious and creepy things. Unexplainable events occur. The suspense builds. Doctors are at a loss to explain things.

Of course, between the documentarians and Sarah they were able to put together the odd pieces and figure things out in time for an explosive ending.

This movie turned out to be WAY better than I expected. Don't let the slow start sway you. Once the action begins, it will keep you riveted to the screen. The ending felt like it might have been a little drawn out, but I suppose they did so for purposes of suspense. However, it does contain one of the most terrifying horror scenes that you have, likely, already seen clipped on the internet.

This movie was way better than expected and worth your time to watch especially going into Halloween season!
