Review Tuesday: STAR TREK: DISCOVERY, Season 3

Star Trek: Discovery Season 3: Release Date, Cast & Story ...

STAR TREK
DISCOVERY
Season 3
After the events of Season 2, the crew of Discovery leap into a future they never expected
In a year that left us with limited options for entertainment, I was actually thrilled and surprised when Season Three of Star Trek Discovery hit the stream. I had watched the previous two seasons and was curious where they were headed.

Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) bops through time and space into the future in her mom's angel suit from season two, about one year before the rest of Discovery arrives. That's how time and space works. It's not always perfectly in sync. They arrive in a galaxy that is in tatters. An event known as "the burn" that took place about a century earlier caused most of the dilithium across the galaxy to explode. This was a huge problem because that's what fuels warp drives and simplifies intergalactic travel.

Of course, when governing structures collapse warlords and mob types move in to take over. Osyraa (played by Janet Kidder) is something like a pirate overlord. Violence, racketeering, slavery, she and her army are involved in it. They are also trying to take over what's left of Starfleet.

So that's the season in a nutshell. Of course a bunch of adventures along the way. For instance, they finally wrote Georgiou off, but word has it that she's getting her own spin-off. They introduced a non-binary character who is a genius but doesn't know her own gender. The man they introduced as the Admiral of Starfleet is the only straight white man on the show, albeit changeful and abrupt. Burnham is as annoying and obnoxious as ever. It's funny how I kinda like the show except for the main character.

I heard one youtuber describe Discovery as Star Trek for non-Trek fans, so I guess that's me. In the end, I watched every single episode and didn't have the issues with it that many life-long Trekkies had with it. I didn't care about the cussing or one of the main themes of the show is the relationship of one gay couple on the ship. I guess they want us to know that the future is woke and we had better get used to it.

In conclusion, I call the season MEH. I am really not sure if I can make myself view season four with Burnham being the captain of the Discovery. I am, however, looking forward to the Captain Pike spin-off, whenever that's happening.
