Prince of Darkness
(1987)
Part Two of what's considered John Carpenter's APOCALYPSE TRILOGY.
I LOVE THE THING. It's an amazing sci-fi horror film that's actual way better than the source material. This guy gave us HALLOWEEN and THE THING. People were suggesting that if you like THE THING you should watch his thematically related yet narratively unrelated Apocalypse Trilogy. Having watched The Thing numerous times I figured it was time to watch #2 in the series, PRINCE OF DARKNESS.
A priest (Donald Pleasance) finds an a curious tank of green slime in an abandoned church basement. After gathering some experts, they determine it's the essence of the devil, trapped. But they accidentally unleashed it, causing evil to be unleashed and take over people.
This movie moves really slowly. The special effects are bad. The film isn't very polished. It's mostly dull and uninteresting. I sat through it twice to see if I was missing something but could only come up with missing several hours of my life after wasting my time watching it twice! I didn't care for it. I didn't find it worth watching at all.
Part three in the series is 1994's IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS which I have no plans to watch at the time I write this.
