D-Day after 79 years

Today marked the 79th anniversary of the Allied invasion of Normandy. The massive rush of troops onto the shores taking apart the German line there marked the turning point of World War II. In the day it was a vital mission and the only way to begin the liberation of Europe from Nazi rule. However, it still depresses me anytime I think about how all those men were thrown at those guns that day. Every soldier who landed that day was considered expendable. In fact, close to 50% of the Allied casualties suffered that day were in the first 10-15 minutes of the assault. That's a huge number if you can imagine it. That was before the days of precision bombing and efforts to actually preserve the lives of the troops.

We owe a debt of gratitude to all those soldiers who fearlessly stormed those beaches on that morning. All gave some. Some gave all. Thank you all.
