Turtle Thursday: The Rise of Lord Tyrannus
I've been quite busy lately so I asked Mrs. Bax0jayz to take some
shots of some random turtle from our herd and email them to me. This week, her choice was the much overshadowed Tyranny, a red eared slider.
Tyranny was the mildest of three male RES that we had. Roxy showed signs of being a problem from the moment we brought him home. Tiny only became a problem when we introduced all of our pets into a single large tank. That seemed to spark a territorial mentality that was impossible to maintain in smaller quarters. So now Roxy dwells in the isolation tank, and Tiny lives in Brooklyn with my friend Rob. By default Tyranny inherited the territory. Tyranny rose to Lord and Master of the tank. The male to be reckoned with. The Alpha Male of the tank.
All hail Lord Tyrannus, dark master of the Sith and harsh ruler of all territories contained within
the 125 gallon tank!
Actually, he still is very mild, and well behaved, but I have caught him asserting his power in the tank from time to time. But he's a benevolent Lord. He allows his subjects all the pellets they wish to consume. He allows them all the basking time they require. He allows them time to play with the house humans, also known as "The Bringers of Food and all that is Yummy."
Verily, for Lord Tyrannus, everyday is a good day, and he never needs to use his A.K.

Singer El DeBarge Arrested in LA County
Music Trivia:
Did you know that when 80's super band "The Power Station" went on tour after having huge success with the singles "Some Like It Hot" and "Murderess" they did not go with inimitable singer Robert Palmer? When the band was formed Palmer insisted he would never tour with this band, and it was agreed upon. But with huge acceptance and widespread popularity, the only way to fully cash in was on tour. So who did they choose to front the band? El Debarge! Not exactly similar styles there, huh? Today Robert Palmer has been dead for years and El DeBarge is under arrest. Whodathunkit?

Singer El DeBarge Arrested in LA County
Aug 30, 8:38 AM (ET)
LOS ANGELES (AP) - El DeBarge was arrested over the weekend for investigation of domestic violence, authorities said Wednesday.
DeBarge, 46, whose real first name is Eldra, was arrested Sunday in Lancaster, said Deputy Eric Eitner of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Details surrounding the arrest weren't released.
The R&B singer was being held without bail because he had two previous warrants for his arrest in narcotics cases, said sheriff's spokesman Deputy Tony Moore.
A representative for DeBarge couldn't immediately be found for comment.
The singer led the family band Debarge in the '80s before going solo. The group was known for hits such as "Who's Holding Donna Now?" and "Rhythm of the Night."
DeBarge was arrested in Grand Rapids, Mich., in 1996 and ordered to pay back child support for his daughter. Ten years earlier, the Michigan native pleaded no contest in Grand Rapids to a charge of creating a disturbance after a college student accused him of assaulting her.
Three of his brothers - Chico, Robert and Thomas - have served jail time on cocaine-related convictions.

Halloween and the creepiest song ever!
“Halloween” stabs its way back into theaters on Friday, following the release of the soundtrack last week. In addition to directing, Rob Zombie also had a major influence on the music used in the new movie. Zombie tapped composer Tyler Bates (300, Grindhouse, The Devils Rejects) to re-create one of the creepiest theme songs in movie history. The Halloween theme is the lead track on the soundtrack that is filled with rock hits from the 70’s and foreboding dialogue from the new movie.
Check out the new theme for Halloween here:

To further chill your blood, Rob Zombie sat down to take you behind the mask in a new video clip. Rob, the cast, and his producers, not only explain the vision that compelled them to be a part of the remaking of the classic horror film /Halloween/, but to further expand the mythology and show you the origin behind the unstoppable killing machine, Michael Myers.

Nikki Sixx - National News
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Motley Crue founding member Nikki Sixx whose brutally honest upcoming book The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star (due September 18th from MTV Pocket Books/ Simon & Schuster) chronicles his battles with drug addiction and his road to recovery, will be a featured speaker at the 18th Annual National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month luncheon on Capitol Hill, September 6th. He is the first rock star to speak at this event -- a particularly ironic distinction since he was once one of the wildest men in rock.
NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals invited Sixx to share his story at this national forum alongside Terry Cline, Ph.D, Administrator, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), and H. Westley Clark, MD, JD, MPH, Director, SAMHSA Center for Substance Abuse Treatment.
The Heroin Diaries, and accompanying CD, The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack, (released August 21st via Eleven Seven Music) offers insight into Sixx's self- destruction with substance abuse, and his subsequent freedom from addiction. The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack, written and produced by Sixx: A.M. (Sixx, James Michael and DJ Ashba), was inspired by haunting diary entries that became The Heroin Diaries. Although the album was not intended for radio, the lead single, "Life Is Beautiful" is already in the top 20 on the rock radio charts.
Twenty-five percent of the book's profits go to "Running Wild In The Night" -- Sixx's fundraising initiative for Covenant House California, which helps keep runaway, abused and abandoned youth off the streets.
About Nikki Sixx
Nikki Sixx was born Frank Feranna in San Jose , California in 1958 and was reared by his grandparents in Seattle . He founded Motley Crue in 1981 and in a few short years, had international success, with worldwide sales exceeding more than 40 million albums. Motley Crue had one of the top-grossing tours of 2005, with all four members reuniting to play before one million people throughout the U.S.

My take on Pinkerton's Babelfish
You may or may not be familiar with the creature called the babel fish, but I'm sure everyone has heard of where it came from: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. This little guy's role was that of a universal translator when placed in the ear. In the original British Television version they simply used a candy Swedish Fish, but for the movie they pumped up the effect a notch. This kit, wonderfully rendered in perfectly cast resin by Pinkerton FX, comes cast in one part, base and Lucite rod packed carefully in a box with the words DON'T PANIC emblazoned on it. Nice touch!
It took me only a short while in front of the television to clean up what few mold marks there were. The wife requested a pretty little yellow fish with dark stripes or dots. So I thought that this was a good excuse for me to get some metallic blue on the fish. I started by brushing on a complete coating of flat white and worked my way through washes of progressively darker shades of yellow, so it looked white at the belly, and a nice rich yellow on the back. The eyes are white with light blue washes. I used all acrylic craft store paints.

Hasselhoff Wednesday: Winner!
Hasselhoff wins libel damagesDavid Hasselhoff accepted "substantial" libel damages from celebrity magazine OK! on Friday over reports he was drunk and abusive at a Los Angeles nightclub after winning a custody battle for his daughters.
The award of damages at London's High Court was against OK! publisher Northern & Shell Plc and Northern & Shell North America Ltd, which publishes OK! Weekly magazine.
The court heard that in July, OK! ran an item which alleged he had been "off his face" and "abusive" at the night club.
On the previous day OK! Weekly published a story headed "Hasselhoff Celebrates Custody Win" which alleged he "drank champagne like it was water" from midnight until 2.00 a.m.
"The truth is that the allegations are entirely false," said Hasselhoff's lawyer Simon Smith.
Both publications have agreed to print an apology, pay "substantial damages" and reimburse the 55-year-old former Baywatch star's legal costs.
In a statement issued outside the court afterwards, Hasselhoff said: "While this should not have happened in the first place I am very pleased with the outcome of this case.
"In the past whenever false reports about me have surfaced I have done my best to ignore them. However, due to the completely false allegations published by OK! magazine and others I was encouraged this time by my children to take a stand."
Hasselhoff is now a judge on the television contest show "America's Got Talent." He divorced his wife, Pamela Bach, 43, in August 2006. They have battled for custody of daughters Taylor Ann, 17, and Hayley, 14.

A Poison Kiss From The Last Goodnight
This week marks the release of, Poison Kiss , the debut album from The Last Goodnight. The band’s slinky grooves have been compared to Maroon 5 while the pop-rock songwriting smarts of lead singer Kurtis John brings to mind Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty. The band was signed by A&R heavyweight Jeff Blue who is also credited with the discovery of Linkin Park and Macy Gray among others. The music industry veteran championed their hook laden songs and went on to executive produce Poison Kiss which also features co-production work from Limp Bizkit’s DJ Lethal. The songs on the album run the stylistic gamut from R&B tinged rock to fragile ballads. Their debut single and video, “Pictures of You” has been embraced by Vh1 and even won MTV’s Battle of the Videos contest earlier this month. The song has also been included in the new season of Mtv’s hit show The Hills and was chosen by ABC in the commercial campaign for their hit drama Brothers and Sisters . The band has been touring the states with Rocco DeLuca & The Burden and is going to join American Idol’s Elliot Yamin on a co-headlining run in October.

Myspace Spammers Suck
Last week there was a spammer on myspace that I would get about 5 - 10 friend requests from each day. The name on the profiles were always different, but the profiles and the pic were always the same. I wish I copied the pic to share from that one, but here's the current pic they are using:

Fiendish! Dragging the good name of Hooters into their evil plot!
The Loving Loss
Los Angeles-based hard rock band The Loving Loss have made available their entire debut EP, You Could Kill , as a free download on Myspace - www.myspace.com/thelovingloss. The Loving Loss is featured this week on Myspace Music. You can also check out live videos from the band's recent performance at the Key Club in West Hollywood , CA . The EP features the face peeling “Grave Digger,” the murderous epic “You Could Kill” and the sonically searing anthem “All Is Lost.” You Could Kill is a snarling set spawned in the underbelly of Hollywood that injects infectious hooks into a seedy undercurrent of raw riffage.

In the cinema: Superbad
There, I got that out of the way. I think every review of this movie had to start that way. But I have to say, I was shocked. I've been seeing the trailers for months and never caught anything of a good vibe off of it. In fact, my wife and I had both written this one off as a movie to pass on. In it's opening week Superbad opening up in the #1 spot with rave reviews. The clincher was the R rating. R? It looked like a retarded teen movie? How can this be?
It a lot more than a teen movie, it's an all out laugh riot! The movie starts, and you are quickly entertained for the next 114 minutes.
What's to say? It's low-brow humor about a bunch of high school graduates trying to catch some tail. While the movie is full of boys and their sexual idolatry of girls, I think no one found it rude nor offensive. After all, it's a friggin movie!
Laughs and fun. What more can you ask for? Go see it!

In the cinema: The Bourne Ultimatum
Part three in the franchise, The Bourne Ultimatum is supposed to be the final explosive installment in the action packed Jason Bourne series of movies.
Matt Damon, Julia Stiles, and Joan Allen return to reprise their roles in this film. All do great jobs. Now added to the mix is David Strathairn and Albert Finney as the new patriots who are really villains.
Matt Damon, Julia Stiles, and Joan Allen return to reprise their roles in this film. All do great jobs. Now added to the mix is David Strathairn and Albert Finney as the new patriots who are really villains.
The movie moves at a frantic pace. The methods used by Bourne are brilliant, while not being overdone as he treks around the world the the place where he was first created, New York City.
I was a little disappointed that the scene they shot on the street where I work wasn't used in the movie. But that was the only disappointment in the whole thing. Everything was fun and kept your attention. It's almost two hours and kept you on the edge of your seat the whole time.
I highly recommend this movie. Dudes will love the action, and the ladies will love Matt. Win win situation for a date.
BTW, they kinda leave an opening in the end if they choose to renege on their promise of the end of this series. Since a new Bourne book just hit the stands recently, and Bourne Ultimatum has done so well, also being hailed as the American James Bond, I wouldn't be surprised to see another installment in the future.
