Review Tuesday: "MAKE AMERICA HATE AGAIN" Tour
MAKE AMERICA HATE AGAIN TOUR
@ Revolution
April 28, 2016
When I heard that FILTER was on tour and playing out on Long Island for only $20, I couldn't resist!
Revolution is more of a bar than a music hall. It's about as small and intimate as a show can get. I have played places bigger than this and we never had platinum records!
So we arrived around 6:45. The first act, I am assuming, was LUBRICOMA. They just looked like local guys who played covers and performed a nice set. They were followed by two major emo bands called VAMPIRES EVERYWHERE and DEATH VALLEY HIGH. To me there was very little difference from to the next. They both did the pale skin, black make-up, and black clothes thing. Both acts sounded like Marilyn Manson cover bands. The only detail I remember that distinguished one band from the other was at the end of the DEATH VALLEY HIGH set, they tried to get the crowd to come to them and chant the band's name. It was a little sad when all of about four kids stepped up for the chant.
ORGY
Orgy went on during the 9:00 hour. I only knew a couple of their songs, so I really wasn't expecting much from them. Hell, I was I just expecting more of the same as the previous two bands. I was pleasantly surprised. They put on a fun rock show. They performed a good set, got the crowd involved, and had a good time despite seeming to start off with some sort of sound troubles.
FILTER took the stage just after 10:30. They had some smoke and lighting effects as well as minor visuals.
Richard Patrick notified the audience that we all needed to bring more people to the shows so they could tour with fewer bands, therein allowing them more time to perform.
The actual set list that was peeled up from the floor after the show:
The actual set list that was peeled up from the floor after the show:
Filter is now a new band. After Richard's stint in ARMY OF ANYONE he fired everyone in Filter and has a new crew. On stage was a drummer, a hot chick playing bass, a guitarist, Richard, and a fifth member who looked like Robert Downey Jr who did everything: guits, keys, effects, loops, sequencing, vox, sound and vapes. I wonder if he even swept the stage after the show!
In a small venue, it's too easy to over-amplify, but FILTER had an amazing mix and you could hear every note perfectly. If anything, Richard's vocals seemed a little low, but generally they sounded great.
Richard also comes off as a pretty cool guy. Several times during the show he grabbed people's phones and took close-ups of the entire band for the fan. He even answered on dude's phone call! Considering Richard came from NIN, he is the opposite sort of performer that Trent is. He actually embraces and adores his fans! More evidence would be that they performed for nearly two full hours, and the place was closed down at around 12:35 AM due to a fire alarm going off. I didn't get home until nearly 2 AM!
In conclusion, for $20 I got one HELL of a show! Glad I went and didn't mind the sleep I lost over it!

WTF Friday: Public Transportation Woes
Something I wrote in 2002...
In NYC theres always a push to get people to use the Public Transportation more. This lowers traffic congestion, reduces smog, and generates revenue for the MTA.
Well that's all fine and dandy. Except for when the system sucks!
Delays and stuff are expected. But the other things that happen make it an adventure.
Here are some amazing stories from the subway:
The Philosopher Pt 1
One day I get on the train. I was a lot younger, was probably when I took the NYPD test. It was a hot summer day, and even hotter in the subway. I get on the train. There was a man sitting nearby who turned to me.
"Hot, huh?" he asked.
"Yep, very," I responded.
"Did you know there is 10 degree difference down here," he said.
"Really," I said.
"Yes! So If it's 90 up there," gesturing to the surface, "it'll be 100 down here. You following me?"
So now I feel like I am obliged to follow this conversation, so I said, "Yeah."
Then from this point on he starts quizzing me. If it's 100 up there, what'll it be down here?" This went on for about 10 minutes until I got to my stop. I politely said, "See ya" and dashed off.
Naked People Are Funny! Pt 1
My secretary and her friend get onto the train at the first stop. It was winter time and very cold. So what they sometimes do is shut most of the doors in each car to keep the heat in. A guy was the only one in the car other than the 2 girls. He proceeds to "whip it out" and proceeds to slap the salami. This particular train is set up so you cannot go from car to car. They were trapped in this car with this masturbating maniac. Luckily someone must've seen this and cops came in and grabbed the guy and dragged him off.
Subway Philosopher Pt 2
Another time I was on the train when a middle-aged casual man sat near me. He starting discussing politics and world affairs with me. That was fine. Then he excused himself because he wanted to read a little. At that time he pulled out HUSTLER magazine and commences gawking at the girls in odd positions inside. Mind you there were plenty of people on this train.
Naked People Are Funny Pt 2
My secretary seems to havea knack to be around when the nude bomb explodes. She's sitting on a car when a hefty girl starts screaming. This screaming girl gets up and starts running up and down the car tearing her clothes off. This must've been near the engineer or the conductor because when the train stopped the police were waiting to escort the stripped lunatic away.

The Empty Subway Car
If you see a subway car that is empty you can never tell what you might be in for when you get on. Usually there are two scenarios:
1. Smelly Homeless Guy. You get on the car and are quickly overwhelmed by the cruel stench of body odor, urine, feces, vomit, etc. on this cad. If you can hold your breath for the ride you may not be affected.
2. Heat. Frequently in the summer the train operators seem to mistake the AC switch with the HEAT switch. So it'll be 95 degrees on the platform, then you get in the car and it'll be about 110.
The Casual Stroll
There is nothing worse during the morning or evening rush than those people who have no place better to be. So they take there time. Strolling at a snails pace they love to hold up the staircases and walkways. The if you try to get around them they get annoyed and yell, "What's yo rush?"
Goal Tenders
Some people love to get on the train and stand right by the door and not let anyone get by them. They actually get annoyed when you want to get around them and into the center of the car so that there is more room for people to get on. I've been cursed out by old ladies who were annoyed when I said "excuse me" and tried to get onto thte train. I thought old people were supposed to be wise? Not these old hags.
People with eyes that are smaller than their asses
I was sitting on the train once. The train was filling up fast. There was a space about 8 inches between me and the next guy. This lard-ass hippo lady starts backing her back bumper into that way-too-small seat. So in a panic I jumped up to save my life and informed her that she underestimated the size of the space and that she could have my seat as well. By the size of her girth I can see the needed to rest her poor knees and ankles from that terrible hefty burden. They could give out at any moment and just think of the death toll! I am a hero!

NYCC 2012 - FINAL
This can't go on forever so here's a round up of the remaining pics that I took that are worth sharing.
Some Dr Who
Bad Robot!
60s era Catwoman...
...and Batman
I dunno, but they looked cool!
Mine Craft
Hitgirl
Steampunk Batman
Domino
Judge Dredd
Last, but certainly not least, the police officers. These were actual cops on duty at NYCC, but I decided to be a jerk and told them their costumes were incredible and they looked like the cops from Batman, or were they from Avengers? May I have a pic? Naturally!

I love NY: Local Lizards
The doorbell rang. There was an urgency to it. Like someone was smashing it for dear life. I opened the door to find Mrs. Bax0jayz standing there with something cupped in her hands.
When you think of New York many things come to mind. The Big Apple. The Yankees. The US Open. Empire State Building. The Hamptons. Niagara Falls. Lizards.
Lizards?!?!
Isn't New York a tad cold for lizards to survive in the wild?
Apparently NOT. Where I live in Nassau County we have wild lizards. We noticed them from the first time we set foot in our home back in 2001. Some good-sized squiggly lizards with flashing forked tongues were dashing about in the warm sun. The local lore states that a shipment of lizards got free and the little guys adapted and made themselves at home. The breed is lacertas and are more commonly known as ruins lizards or wall lizards.
Stacey had captured one of these lizards. I saw the same guy earlier in the day while I was cutting the lawn but herded him over to the junipers. Attached to this blog post are pics that I took with the Canon 350D.

WTF Friday: Lizards in Long Island, New York?!?!
If you know anyone who lives in the Franklin Square / Garden City of Nassau County, NY (like I do) they will tell you that we have lizards! I don't mean as pets, but living wild. The story is that a shipment of lizards from Europe was lost and the Lacertids have adapted to the area nicely.
You can find the full story HERE.

tranche \trahnch, trahnsh\, noun:
- any part, division, or installment: We've hired the first tranche of researchers.
- Finance. a. one part or division of a larger unit, as of an asset pool or investment: The loan will be repaid in three tranches. b. a group of securities that share a certain characteristic and form part of a larger offering: The second tranche of the bond issue has a five-year maturity.
verb:
- Finance. to divide into parts: tranched debt; A credit portfolio can be tranched into a variety of components that are then further subdivided.
Tranche unsurprisingly shares a root with trench. Both words come from the Old French trenchier meaning "to cut." While this term first entered English in the sixteenth century, it was 450 years before tranche took on its financial senses.
Patient Zero
- Typically an asshole that spends between five and ten minutes talking to you before mentioning casually that he/she is sick. Causing you to wonder if you've now been infected by what this mouth breathing fuck stick has. Usually its just the common cold, but it could just as easily be ebola.
I can't come in today, fuckin' Patient Zero there got me sick yesterday when he was breathing all over the coffee cups."

NY Mayor Ed Koch dead at 88
Ed Koch, former 3x mayor of NYC, passed away from congenital heart failure early this morning. He was 88.
Koch is regarded as the mayor who dragged NYC out of the pits of near bankruptcy of the 70s but if he were so good, then why did the party turn it's back on him and put Dinkins as the candidate? His years, while remembered largely by his taking the trains and asking constituents, "How am I doing?" will certainly be marred by the years of decay and violence he ruled over. In recent years he became a mouthpiece expounding the virtues of the Democratic party and lost the "sensibility" he always claimed was the hallmark of his political career.

Allergy
I must've gotten onto a #5 train with a crazy cat lady aboard. How do I know? I have severe cat allergies and in the five minutes I was on that train my left eye turned blood-shot and itchy. No cat was evident on the train, in a carry-bog or otherwise. Luckily I keep Benadryl at work.

Weird News: Queens, NY, Hooters hit with racism lawsuit
Pictured: NOT Shenika, NOT politically correct
Kisuk Cha and his girlfriend recently went to Hooters in Fresh Meadows, Queens, NY, for some take-out. After paying he noticed that his receipt was for "chinx." As UNfunny as that sounds, the server, Shenika, should probably know that racism isn't funny.
She immediately quit her job at Hooters, which now faces a $1 million lawsuit from this kid for, for what? Not being politically correct? Hooters? FUCKING HOOTERS? C'mon now? A place called Hooters with sexily clad chicks serving booze and fried food should know to be more peecee? Get the fuck out of here! I smell opportunist.

FD of Kidneythieves News and NYC show
From my email:
HI Friends, Free Dominguez here.
In the midst of me waiting for 2 KT songs to be released, I thought I would keep myself busy.
Doing a show while i am in NYC in September 21, semi acoustic i guess you can say! 60 tickets left, so here is the link:
New and old material, and will bring my own personal Internet again where you can log on and download surprises straight to your PDA (as well as send me things (i.e., photos, etc.) and messages!)

VOLCANO+THESEA. There's only one way it's getting finished. I figure I might as well make an unapologetic great piece of work on my solo material before i die. I've always had limitations sonically--at first it was fun to see if i could write a song in my bedroom, record it. but NOW, I have a very special producer that's signed on--and a deadline to get the record finished. Will do a small KICKSTARTER IN SEPTEMBER to make sure that happens in a timely fashion...and i have some things i have been keeping over the years, as well as very personalized things, and some great remixers already signed on to make this a great collaboration between all of us!!
Don't be shy to send me contributor suggestions!!!
Thank you for being so incredibly awesome.
To be continued,
