OUT NOW: Black Flag Tribute Featuring Dez Cadena, Keith Morris, Kira Roessler, Mike Watt and more...

Gimmie Gimmie Gimme: Reinterpreting Black Flag is not your typical tribute record. Instead of roping in fellow punk or hardcore bands to cover the influential punk group's most revered songs, the powers that be at CMH Records' The Secret Life of Records have opted to get members of Black Flag and their friends to flip their songs on their pretty little punk rock heads and give them the flavors of the 1950s and 1960s rock and roll, country, and even surf rock.
"These reinterpretations recall the sounds made popular by artists such as Johnny Cash, Pasty Cline, Roy Orbison, and Brenda Lee," says producer, Evan Taylor. "The goal of Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie was to create completely new interpretations of classic Black Flag songs while preserving the integrity of the original songs. The record was designed to appeal to a cross-over audience, offering Black Flag fans new takes on their favorite songs wile also giving an introduction to those with other tastes."
The six-song release also includes a cover of Jimmie Rodgers' "In the Jailhouse Now," which was hand-selected and sung by Black Flag's Keith Morris, and features Peter Case (Plimsouls) on vocals and Mike Watt (Minutemen) on bass. Other tracks feature other Black Flag members, such as Dez Cadena and Kira Roessler, as well as Blondie's Jimmy Destri, The Chapin Sisters, and Joe Baiza (Saccharine Trust).
Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie, which was recorded and mixed completely analog in studios on both coasts, will be released on April 20 in both on vinyl and digitally.
Gimmie Gimmie Gimme: Reinterpreting Black Flag track listing:

  1. "Rise Above" featuring Dez Cadena (Black Flag/ Misfits) on lead vocals and Jimmy Destri (Blondie) on organ

  2. "Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie" featuring Kira Roessler (Black Flag) on lead vocals and The Chapin Sisters on backing vocals

  3. "Six Pack" featuring Dez Cadena on lead vocals and Mike Watt (Minutemen) on bass

  4. "Nervous Breakdown" featuring Kira Roessler on lead vocals and The Chapin Sisters on backing vocals

  5. "In the Jailhouse Now," a Jimmie Rodgers cover featuring Keith Morris (Black Flag, Circle Jerks) and Peter Case (Plimsouls) on vocals, Mike Watt on bass, and Joe Baiza (Saccharine Trust) on guitar

Natalia Kills Unveils "Love, Kills xx" Web Series, Debut Album Coming Soon

Cherrytree Films presents “Love, Kills xx," an episodic web series starring – and directed by – Natalia Kills. The series explores the deepest and darkest impulses of Natalia Kills' imagination.

"Love, Kills xx" EPISODE 1

Natalia Kills told Idolator.com of her “Love, Kills xx” film series, "I made it for my fans so they could get to know me better. It’s a collection of three-minute episodes of artistic visuals—me being myself but in unusual situations." New episodes are unveiled Mondays at 5pm PST on http://www.nataliakills.com/ and Tuesdays on VEVO.

The short film is a companion visual piece to Natalia's debut album Perfectionist, a sonic journey into her signature world of dark pop, due out later this year on will.i.am/Cherrytree/Kon Live/Interscope Records. Written by Natalia and influenced by the likes of Depeche Mode, Kate Bush and Prince, Perfectionist was helmed by star producers including Jeff Bhasker (Kanye West, Alicia Keys), Akon (Gwen Stefani, Nelly), Martin "Cherry Cherry Boom Boom" Kierszenbaum (Lady Gaga, t.A.T.u.), Fernando Garibay (Britney Spears, Lady Gaga) & Neff-U (Keyshia Cole, Ashanti).

MORE INFO
Natalia Kills writes. She writes songs, poems, scripts, screenplays, lists, instructions and personal notes addressed to "Sweetheart." British by birth, Jamaican and South American by descent and citizen of the world by fearless exploration and sheer determination, Natalia is a new-millennium renaissance woman. Having written her entire debut album as well as written and produced her debut video clip, "Zombie," Natalia conjures and composes her own reality. She's as likely to reference MacBeth as she is The Shining in a libretto or a tweet. She strives for "Perfection" - an ideal to which she says all humans are genetically programmed to aspire - and the basis of her debut album title Perfectionist (out in 2010 on Will I Am/Cherrytree/Kon Live/Interscope/Bozadya/Dandyville Records). This thread is across all of her aesthetic output including her music, performance, clothes, web series and film. The latter is a companion visual piece to her album, weaving motifs from her lyric and songs throughout. It's all one thought for Natalia: one thread imagined and written simultaneously across canvas, video, film and paper ...and all signed "Love, Kills."

Indie Alt-Rockers “The Devyl Nellys” to Release Second EP, Airport and Tour US in Support

The Devyl Nellys, a NYC band known for its varied gypsy-like rhythms and razor sharp lyrics released their second EP, Airport, on April 6, 2010. They will support this release with a nationwide tour throughout the year.

Possessing an unrestrained and decidedly fresh, bohemian-rock sound, the Devyl Nellys came together organically within the greatest of cultural melting pots, New York City. Bombarded by music ranging from Pink Floyd and The Allman Brothers to Chuck Berry and Joao Gilberto, songwriter Nelly Levon and guitarist James Mastro began their own experimental jam sessions after a lifetime immersed in piano and drums. Their addictive tunes and rhythms ensnared Tim Noyes of the Americana band, Aunt Martha, along with Peter Carucci and Wilson Montuori of the power pop band, Chasing Sunday, while they were crisscrossing the Catskills and New York supporting bands like Gov’t Mule and The Violent Femmes.

The Devyl Nellys’ alternative rock/folk sound has been tempered and honed through countless gigs across the country and in studio sessions at Avatar and Nine Lives with Fred Kevorkian and Grammy winner Nicola Stemmer. In the past they have contributed to Tribal Productions, alongside NYU Tisch Gold Medal recipients and Sundance Film Festival winners Cary Lin and Mahesh Pailoor and their music has been placed regionally on The Songwriter's Network in Nashville and on the Emerging Women Artists Radio Show in Chicago. They have been selected by the GAP for inclusion in their compilation CD, Born To Play Musicians and can also be heard on The Discovery Channel and on The History Channel's "Cities of the Underworld".

Following a path chosen by other musical contemporaries, The Devyl Nellys are resisting the call to conform and will remain independent in the interests of their artistic vision. They will continue highlighting the conflicts within the darker areas of American society and culture. Their previous EP, Skyline, stressed frustrations with mainstream art and life, but through poignant lyrics and a touch of humor, caused HBO to comment, "If only more indie artists were this bitterly honest and blissfully fun." The EP, Airport, builds upon their myriad strengths, adding the experiences of another year of energetic musicianship, but offers some artistic surprises.

Satanic Punk International Conspiracy

Marfa, Texas, is a pretty weird place. The modest-sized city—its population of 2,400 equals roughly half its altitude—was named for a character in a Russian novel, served as the set of James Dean’s last movie, and has since the late 1800s been known for the mysterious Marfa ghost lights, the unexplained glowing spheres that appear randomly in the night air east of the town. But Marfa is also home to another astonishing and out-of-the-ordinary phenomenon. One that’s simmering. Rumbling. Steadily building in intensity—and about to explode onto on unsuspecting music world like a blinding, white-hot, bird-flipping supernova. Its name? Satanic Punk International Conspiracy—or S.P.I.C. for short.

App began more than a year ago, with the band (vocalists Mike Shinoda and Chester Bennington, drummer Rob Bourdon, guitarist Brad Delson, DJ Joe Hahn and bassist Dave "Phoenix" Farrell) working closely with Artificial Life, Inc. on every aspect of the game: storylines, gameplay, character design and of course, music. Mike Shinoda designed the band members’ avatars and edited every line of dialogue, making this much more than just a simple rhythm game.

The iPad app renders the adventure with high-definition graphics, and a unique user interface that has been specially redesigned to utilize the iPad’s larger screen. Essential functions are now just a touch away, so players never need to pause the action to dig into menus. The iPad app also includes two control schemes, allowing players to choose the setting that best suits their gaming style.

Among the game’s endless highlights are original and 8-bit remixes of Linkin Park tracks including “New Divide,” “One Step Closer,” “In The End,” “Crawling,” “QWERTY,” “Hands Held High,” “Faint,” and “No More Sorrow.” This marks the first time that Linkin Park’s music has been reinterpreted using old-school video game sounds. The game, which also includes original artwork by the band, opens with “One Step Closer” sounding like it was coming out of a first-generation NES.

Additional game features include:
  • Personalization of players’ avatars and apartments provide a unique community experience
  • Non-player characters (NPCs) inhabit the world, adding drama to the gaming experience
  • Shopping for virtual items with coins awarded by winning fights and completing missions
  • Earning trophies for adding friends to the rebellion
  • A news feed to stay up-to-date with Linkin Park
  • Facebook and Twitter integration connecting millions of social network users worldwide
The iPad app features include:
  • Enhanced graphics to allow players to see their avatars and the six districts come to life in great detail
  • Optimized user interface for the larger screen and makes menu items easy to access at all times: equip weapons and change music tracks without ever leaving the main screen.
  • Multiple controls so gamers can choose between two control schemes to best fit their playing styles. The iPad-specific D-pad setup has been implemented for players more comfortable with button-oriented controls.
“As opposed to putting together an app featuring just our songs and name, we wanted to make this an exciting gaming and music experience and the folks at Artificial Life shared that vision,” says Shinoda. “They were able to turn my sketches and our creative ideas in to a living, breathing world that we think gamers and fans will thoroughly enjoy.”
