Artist Interview: Conny Valentina, Day 1

It's been my supreme honor and privelege to be allowed a personal interview with artist Conny Valentina for my humble website.

Shall we get started? Following will be my standard interview questions and those that my friend and fellow blogger, Steve Loya (http://steveloya.com/) uses when interviewing artists:

Can you give my readers a brief introduction to yourself, for those who are unfamiliar with you.

  • My name is Conny Valentina and I am an artist. I concentrate mainly on pin up and illustrative art, and have been fortunate to spend some years now working on book covers and interiors. Private commissions are loads of fun as most clients leave most of the details to me to create something for them, but my favourite thing is just to work from the heart and do what the moment wants. When a client chooses to buy a 'private' piece, that is the most gratifying of all, as they are buying something personal and meaningful, a moment in time never to be recreated again.
Where do you live?

  • Adelaide, Australia
When did you first start with art and what variety?

  • I was doing what all kids did at 7. Creating masterpieces in watercolour. I remember how incensed I was when my tree with the red apple did NOT win the first prize at the primary school art fair. I demand a recount!
How did you choose your genre(s)?

  • The pin up was something I always knew I would do, even as a child I would look through magazines and rip out the pages with the prettiest girls in the best poses. I tried to duplicate them rather poorly, but I couldn't wait till the day I could master anatomy so I could do the models justice.
What first made you want to become an artist?

  • The cover of the Jacksons Victory album done by Michael Whelan. The man is a god.

The interview will continue all week, but you can find out more about Conny Valentina on the web:
