Artist Interview: Conny Valentina, Day 2

Let's continue with day two of the interview with the artist Conny Valentina. We've already learnede she's from Australia an has a sexy style. Next up...

Where did you go to school for your art?

  • In my bedroom.

How long have you been an artist?

  • If you count my crayola wheel, since I was 7.

How would you describe your style to people?

  • Hmmm, slightly sexy, slightly gothic, a little ethereal with a touch of sensuality. I really respond to colour, so that drives my images.
What inspires some of your subject matter?

  • It almost always falls down to my mood. The darker I feel, the darker the imagery. And music tends to also drive a piece I am working on.
Any artists alive today who make you pay attention?

  • Michael Whelan, Rodney Matthews, Patrick Woodroffe, Brom, Sorayama and Brian Stelfreeze are the main players, but I am also addicted to the Spectrum annual that has some of the most amazing contemporary artists around.
Is there a decent art "scene" out your way - how would you describe it?

  • Not really. For the kind of art I do, I am totally in the wrong place. I am surrounded by landscapes, portraiture and abstract art....I need another city to adopt me! lol
What bugs you most about the art world these days?

  • Nowhere near enough women getting the recognition. Yes, I am bitter. There. lolol

More tomorrow! In the meantime you can connect with Conny Valentina on the web:
