Review Tuesday - Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D

Resident Evil: AfterlifeAfter seeing the last two Resident Evil movies in the theaters, I was looking forward to seeing this next installment: AFTERLIFE. However, when I saw that it was in 3D, I had serious reservations.

My fears were well-founded. The problem with 3D movies is that they usually concentrate on teh 3D effects and not on the plot. That's exactly what went on here. There were so many things that made no sense, were inconsistent, weren't explained, etc. that it really hurt the film. If you like action, it was there. If you like Milla, she was great. If you like Ali Larter, she was hot. Beyond that, the movie had serious problems.

The needed serious editing to trim out the nonsense and needed more writers to make it a story that actually had continuity and made sense. I say skip seeing this in the theater, save your extra 3D money and just wait for the DVD. Hopefully there would be extra scenes and goodies to make it worthwhile.

Read on if you don't care about Spoilers.
I'm listing some things that may spoil the movie if you plan to see it, but these things bothered me. Now you can be prepared!

  • The multiple Alices were WASTED in the initial assault on the Umbrella Corp. They took the place down in record time only to be wiped out in a completely expected self-destruct sequence. Why did Alice put all her eggs on one basket when she knew Umbrella would do something like that?

  • Alice was given an injection by Albert Wesker, I suppose the CEO of Umbrella, that supposedly made her human again. But in the next scene she's superhuman again. WTF?!?!

  • Where did Alice find an unending supply of fuel for her WWII fighter plane?

  • Why was a guard, Wendell, posted without a gun? Was he guarding against flies?

  • How come only Alice had the wisdom to recognize that the imprisoned soldier, Chris, was an ally?

  • Why was there an easy access panel from the well stocked armory into the heart of the prison?

  • Who was the giant zombie with the huge axe / hammer? Why was he a slow lumbering monster when he showed up, but later on he's faster than Alice?

  • How was Alice able to fit quarters into her double barrel shotgun? How come she never had to reload those, even though she fired each about eight times?

  • Where did they find a high calibre revolver that hold about 15 rounds?

  • Why would a tank be stored at a prison with the engine pulled out?

  • How did the zombies develop the new split head thing?

  • How was Albert Wesker able to regenerate with more than half his skull and brains missing?

  • How was the audience supposed to know that the super-hot blond chick who showed up in the assault during the ending credits was Jill Valentine? When last we saw her she was a brunette in Resident Evil: Apocolypse! Not a word since!

  • After seeing this, I'd still say that Resident Evil: Extinction is the best of the series.
