REVIEW TUESDAY: In the cinema - Let Me In

Let Me InWith little fanfare and notoriety a special movie rolled into theatres last weekend which really deserved greater notice. Based on a book AND movie from Europe called LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, LET ME IN is a brilliantly remade American version.

This movie has all the hallmarks of a movie with Oscar run intentions. A twelve year old boy who is a social misfit is tortured by bullies until a girl moves in next door and gives him the confidence to defend himself. An adolescent love story, your typical boy meets girl love story.

EXCEPT

The girl next door is a blood-thirsty vampire and the man who appears to be her father is really her minion who murders people for their blood to satisfy her hunger. The movie is about the touching moments between the boy, Owen (played by Kodi Smit-McPhee) and the girl next-door, Abby (played by "Hit Girl" Chloe Moretz) but then the film is peppered with scenes of extreme violence and gore.

This movie is completely different from your usual horror flick. It's not about the gory "money shot" but about the coming of age story of Owen. It's just AMAZING. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone / everyone out there. Plus I hope that from word of mouth that this movie, which barely made it into the top ten in ticket sales this weekend, helps it to build momentum. But, most of all, I hope they do NOT make a sequel or prequel. This movie is perfect the way it is.
