Review Tuesday: Resident Evil (2002) on DVD

Resident Evil (Deluxe Edition)Weeks ago I decided to prepare myself for Resident Evil: Afterlife by reacquainting myself with the entire series that came before it. Of course the best place to start would be the original, RESIDENT EVIL.

The movie starts right off with the main character for the franchise, Alice (Milla Jovovich) waking from a hit on the noggin in the shower. From there she's dragged into a subterranean nightmare. The Umbrella Corporation had been working on a biological weapon in a complex beneath Raccoon City that a sabateur set free. The computer system locked it down in an attempt to contain the cantagion but killed everyone in the complex whilst doing so. Commandos are sent in to take the computer offline as it's belileved it went berserk and just killed everyone for no good reason.

From there it's just your typical "escape from zombies" movie.

The cast is pretty good, and you really like the good guys and almost feel bad as they get picked off one by one. The special effects are mostly, crude but good enough. The zombies are typical feet dragging moaners that look like they would fit in perfectly in Michael Jackson's THRILLER video.

It's crude but good enough to watch. Plus Milla adds extra point with her good looks. If you catch it on TV, it's good mindless entertainment.
