In the cinema: The Tourist

The TouristThis review was supposed to be up last week, but I had no time to write it. This is a better week, so here goes. The wife wanted to see this movie, which was kind of a shock to me because she doesn't always want to see the movies that Johnny Depp is in. Or maybe she wanted to see Angelina Jolie as we've been very pleased with the movies she's been in. At any rate, we went to see The Tourist opening weekend.

It was a strange way for a movie to open. The papers gave this movie mixed reviews leaning towards good. Most of the NY papers leaned in the other direction. All I knew was that nothing is as it appears in this movie. Okay.

Elise (Jolie) is on a journey across Europe to meet with her lover who is on the run from the mob and authorities. On the way she meets a tourist, Frank Tupelo (Depp) and makes those following her believe that Frank is the fugitive. From that point on the movie is one thrilling sequence regarding Elise or Frank trying to get away from the villains.

Indeed, no one is who they seem to be in this movie. And the layers aren't too thick, and fun to follow. By the end of the movie, you're thrilled with the ending and it's tied up nice and neatly with a proper ending. Well done. I recommend seeing it, either on the big screen or on DVD. Bravo!
