In the cinema: TRUE GRIT

True Grit (Special Collector's Edition)My entire life, anytime you heard the term TRUE GRIT you knew it was referring to a REAL man. A manly man. A man who doesn't take guff. A man who gets things done. And for many, there was no better man to display TRUE GRIT than the American Hero, John Wayne. And that original True Grit is regarded by many as a perfect movie. I have never seen it, but would like to.

After so many years, someone decided to take that on. A new True Grit came out near the end of 2010 starring Jeff bridges and Matt Damon. Supposedly, this version is more true to the original book. I never read the book, so i can't say. But I did see this new version of the movie.

The movie is over two hours, and in an age that movies are averaging 90 minutes, it seems epic. It's the story of a 14 year old girl, Mattie Ross (played by Hailee Steinfeld) who is looking to find her father's murderer, Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin). She hires Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges) to bring Chaney back so he can hang for the murder. Along the way they meet up with Texas Ranger LaBoeuf (Matt Damon) who's been on Chaney's trail for a long time.

The movie moves along at a good pace, it never seems dull, and it keeps your attention. It took a while to adjust to Bridges' accent, but even that was interesting.

I'm not going to give anything away, I'm just going to say, GO SEE THIS. My wife was reluctant to go in and see this, and walked out saying she was GLAD I talked her into it. My wife is funny about dramas and Westerns, so that says a lot to me. I think this flick will say a lot to you too. Check it out!
