La Roux's self-titled Cherrytree Records debut won the Grammy for Best Electronic/Dance Album last night in Los Angeles. The category included former Grammy winners The Chemical Brothers, innovative electronic musician BT and fellow Brits Groove Armada and Goldfrapp.
It was a busy weekend for La Roux in Los Angeles. On Friday night before the Grammy ceremonies, Cherrytree Records presented La Roux's Elly Jackson and Ben Langmaid with plaques commemorating 2 Million singles sold of their smash hit "Bulletproof."
Said Cherrytree Records Chairman Martin Kierszenbaum: "La Roux created a new sound with their innovative debut album, and it's wonderful to see the Grammys recognizing that."
The LA Times' The Envelope blog reports that the duo revealed backstage after their win that the album was recorded in Langmaid's living room. "We had no vocal booth;" Jackson told reporters, "sometimes we just closed the curtains." The Grammy wasn't the only win for her last night though, as The Envelope honored her signature pompadour with an unofficial award for "Most Rad Hairstyle."
