Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto (Capitol Records) enters The Billboard 200 at No. 1, becoming the band’s third consecutive studio album to debut atop both The Billboard 200 and the U.K. album chart as No. 1 rankings continue to come in from around the globe.
Mylo Xyloto has also set the record for the highest first week album sales ever on the iTunes Store worldwide – a milestone Coldplay first achieved in 2008 with the release of Viva La Vida. In the U.S., sales across all formats totaled 447,000 according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Chris Martin will guest on “The Howard Stern Show” on Wednesday, November 9. His interview and performance will air live on Howard 100 on Sirius XM Radio and on Howard TV on "On Demand."
Coldplay will be the musical guest on “Saturday Night Live” on November 12. Emma Stone will be the host. The band celebrated the release of Mylo Xyloto with an “American Express Unstaged” concert at Madrid’s famed bullfighting arena, Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas, The show’s webcast, which was directed by award-winning filmmaker/photographer Anton Corbijn, generated 19 million streams during the live show and rebroadcasts that evening – the most streams ever by a single-artist live event on YouTube. Q Magazine called the concert “a rare and satisfying mix of communal euphoria and touching intimacy.”
Coldplay – comprising Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland, Will Champion and Chris Martin – has sold more than 50 million records worldwide and won numerous awards, including seven GRAMMY® Awards, six Brit Awards and four MTV Video Music Awards. The band’s last album, Viva La Vida, charted at No. 1 in 36 countries, including the U.S. and the U.K, and became the No. 1 selling album worldwide of 2008, according to IFPI. Coldplay headlined numerous festivals in the months leading up to Mylo Xyloto’s release, including stops in the U.S. at Lollapalooza in Chicago, Austin City Limits Festival, the iHeart Radio Music Festival in Las Vegas and Atlanta’s Music Midtown.
