I've been a fan of Static-X since their first album. Over the years Wayne put out a couple solo songs (Queen of the Damned Soundtrack) which were very good. I've always been suspicious that the bulk of the writing has been the work of Wayne "Static" Wells, so it's no surprise, to me, that he finally put out a solo record.
Pighammer by Wayne Static came out a couple weeks ago. It's mostly a solo effort by Wayne, and his wife, retired pr0n star Tera Wray, collaborated a little. He lists members of the band he plays with when on tour, so I assume they had nothing to do with the recording.
The songs sound very much like what you're used to with Static-X: EVIL DISCO. Kinda the same guitar sounds, loops, layers and vocals. While I wouldn't say there was anything earth-shattering or new about the music, I would say that it's all strong and what fans might expect. In fact, I read on one site that the album seems very reminiscent of previous endeavours.
Here's the track list:
Song Title - Time1. Pighammer 0:282. Around The Turn 2:263. Assassins Of Youth 3:124. Thunder Invader 4:475. Static Killer 5:056. She 3:307. Get It Together 3:338. Chrome Nation 3:329. Shifter 4:0310. Slave 4:0911. The Creatures Are Everywhere 4:2612. Behind The Sky 2:54
While I was hoping for something more recognizable as DIFFERENT from Static-X, I was pleased with PIGHAMMER. It's some good solid hard rocking evil disco. I mean, if Wayne was putting out another Static-X record, why didn't collaborate with the rest of the band? It IS good, but you can tell where the guys are missing. There's a layer that isn't there. I would still call this a must have for fans.
