STAR
THE LAST JEDI
WARS
After the events of THE FORCE AWAKENS, the First Order is taking advantage of the galaxy without leadership and is taking over systems while crushing the rebellion.
Normally I go to movies like this with a gang of friends but, for some reason, I needed to see this one sooner than later. With all the fan theories out there as well as the leaks, I wanted to see it before I had a completely incorrect expectation of what this movie was about.
So where do I begin since I don't want to post any spoilers? Okay, I'll just say I really liked it. This second installment in the third trilogy provided the fans with more answers to questions posed in Episode 7. However, from what I understand, many fanboys were upset because their theories were blown out of the water in this film. That's what you get when you set unrealistic expectations. After all, you're not the script-writer nor the director.
That said, this movie wasn't a reboot of EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, although some vague similarities could be attached. THEY BOTH HAVE AT-ATs! That's about the end of it. Rey doesn't get trained by Luke the way Yoda trained Luke. We don't learn who Rei's parents are. We don't learn what connection Rey has with Ben Solo. The fates of Luke and Leia are definitely not as expected.
Visually, the movie was perfect. The number of new vehicles and characters was outstanding. The plot was curious, until you saw where it was headed. I know a lot of people had troubles with (minor spoiler) the First Order chasing the remnants of the Rebel fleet across the galaxy. But it made sense, in a way. There was no escape for the Rebels, so Snoke wanted to prolong the joy of crushing them utterly and finally.
In all, I had no problem with this movie. Not even with the new annoying character who was introduced. A very solid eighth installment in the STAR WARS universe (I guess ninth if you include Rogue One?). Definitely worth watching and I can't wait to see it again, this time with my gang of friends! Kylo Ren is less emo and more brutal. Luke has LINES. There are some great space battles. Captain Phasma returns. And Daisy Ridley as Rey is almost distractingly hot in the movie. So go check it out!
