Review Tuesday: WONDER WOMAN [2017]

WONDER WOMAN
The origin story of Wonder Woman: A princess from a forgotten Greek Island ventures into war-torn Europe to save mankind from Ares, the God of War.
I know, I'm late to this party, but I DID get around to seeing it, so here it is. WONDER WOMAN was the first blockbuster of 2017and held it's place as top grossing film of the year until STAR WARS hit the screen.

Diana (Gal Gadot, pronounced Guh-dōt) was a rare child born unto the island of Amazons. She learned the ways of the warrior on that secluded island until the rest of the world caught up with them.

The movie seemed to be set during World War One as Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) makes his entrance in a bi-plane. I am mostly fine with that, as they discuss trench warfare and the use of gas but other details leaned towards the Nazis of WW2 being the villains. Either way, it's some details that may bother you if you have more than a general knowledge of those events.

From that point, being exposed to the violence of the outside world, Diana vows to venture abroad as she's certain that the War must be the machinations of the God Of War, Ares.

The rest of the movie is about Diana's adventure across Europe with a small team of soldiers to confront Ares and to get him to release his violent grip over humans.

The movie is interesting. It depicts a powerful "hero" type character who happens to be naive to everything within this world learning about everything the hard way.

Everyone does a very good job with their various roles in this film. I have heard several harsh criticisms of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, but I disagree. If you flashback to previous incarnations of Wonder Woman, I always found something amiss. However it seemed corrected with this casting. Gadot, who is Israeli, is a natural Mediterranean while none of the others looked it. She looks appropriate for who and what she's supposed to be. She definitely looked fit and appropriate for the role. Additionally her accent, which bothered some people and even had people suggest that her acting was sub-par, reconciled well in my mind to the character and her origins.

In the end I found the two hour movie entertaining. The the tougher critic, Mrs Bax0jayz also said it held her interest and liked it as well.

If you have to see a DC movie, this would be the one as there is no Batfleck in it at all.
