kibitzer \KIB-it-ser\, noun:
  1. A giver of uninvited or unwanted advice.
  2. A spectator at a card game who looks at the players' cards over their shoulders, especially one who gives unsolicited advice.
  3. A person who jokes, chitchats, or makes wisecracks, especially while others are trying to work or to discuss something seriously.
Kibitzer entered English first in America in the 1920s. It comes from the Yiddish word kibetsn (equivalent to German kiebitzen) meaning "to look on at cards."
 
transition friend
  • A person that brings together 2 or more people that would otherwise not actually hang out . He acts as the transition friend between them, making hanging out possible. Without that specific friend there, the 2 individuals would not hang out alone until multiple hanging out sessions with the transition friend.
Adam: Yo Jeremy are you going to Jose's party tonight?
Jeremy: Naw, Alejandro is my transition friend for Jose. I can't just show up without him being there.

  • the branch of astronomy that deals with the nature and origin of the physical features of the moon.
Origin: Selenology stems from the Greek word for "moon," selḗnē. In English, the combining form seleno- means "moon"; the combining form -logy is used in the names of sciences or bodies of knowledge.
