HELLRAISER
A man seeking ultimate pleasures accidentally unleashes a world of agony upon himself and has to do unthinkable things to attempt to escape the realm of the Cenobites.
We were trying to find something to watch recently and came across this classic of horror on the Fire Stick. Since I had previously read THE HELLBOUND HEART by Clive Barker (reviewed HERE) I was very interested in seeing how true to the original literature this movie was...
...And it was fairly faithful to the original story. The story went largely as it did in the book. Perhaps the greatest departure was Pinhead, who had a relatively minor role in the book and was a teenage girl. Other than that I might say that there were just differences in taste. For instance, I was expecting Julia, the cheating wife (played by Clare Higgins) to be way hotter, almost Playboy centerfold hot in order to easily seduce men to bring home as fodder for the Frank zombie.
The special effects were okay considering the day and age. Pretty cheesy are points and could've been much worse for a horror film. The direction and production, on a whole, wasn't too bad. Imagine what they could've done if they actually had a budget?
They are talking about rebooting the series, so it might not be a bad idea to refresh your memory.
