Review Tuesday: THE WALKING DEAD #193

THE WALKING DEAD #193
Set many years after the murder of Rick Grimes, a view of the world he created in the FINAL issue of The Walking Dead.
TWD 193 came out while I was on vacation for the 4th of July extended weekend. I usually obtain and read on the release date but this was one time it slipped my mind with a vacation to Bermuda being first and foremost in my mind. Of course, that would be when the curtain for the comic book series THE WALKING DEAD would close for the final time.

In this extended final issue we see what became of our survivors. Carl and Sophia, being the final two original surviving characters, of course, ended up together and have a family. The world is relatively safe, but far from perfect. This final issue ties up some loose ends and tells you how the stories of so many of the characters you have known and loved turned out.

This was a final issue planned more than fifty issues ago and executed perfectly. The creators did the perfect thing by bringing a proper end to the series and allowing it to go out in style and not in a whimper, having been dragged out beyond it's useful life. No, the creators gave us a wonderful, and hopeful ending to this story and unequivocally answered the question of whether or not TWD was the story of Rick Grimes, the hero of mankind in a reality that nearly left humans extinct.

Kudos to a wonderful send off. The letter to the fans at the end was charming. Worth reading sooner than later for any fan of the comic (and certainly the show) THE WALKING DEAD.
