Houdini Museum
Tour & Magic Show
Every year Mrs Baxojayz and I go on some sort of excursion for our birthdays. This year she chose Bermuda and I chose Pennsylvania. Since my birthday is the day before Halloween I tend to prefer something more spooky and what would be better than the Houdini Museum Tour & Magic Show?

Located in Scranton, PA, the Houdini Museum is easy to reach from I-81, and not far from the Poconos. There is plenty of free parking in the area so making the 1:00 showtime is easy enough.

Our hosts were magicians Dorothy Dietrich and Dick Brooks. Once the group was settled into seats the orientation began. Dick began by giving us some history and background. After that we were taken for a tour of the museum. The place is really just three rooms, but they pack in so much to see that not a single inch of display space is wasted. After the history portion is concluded, Dorothy puts on a magic act. It's more fun due to the intimate size of the venue. By the way, if you aren't familiar with Dorothy's name, YOU SHOULD BE. She was the first big name woman magician, sometimes referred to as the female Houdini, and is the only woman to do the bullet catch trick.

I won't say anymore about this other than that the whole event is three hours of learning and entertainment. For the ticket price, you sure do get your money's worth. I recommend it!

Haunted Psychic & Seance Nite
My wife noticed that on some of the flyers for the Houdini Museum was also a listing for a Haunted Psychic & Seance Nite. She has always wanted to experience what a seance is all about so since we were already in the area, why not hit this show as well?

This event takes place in the Houdini Museum and Dick Brooks is the resident mentalist, of course, assisted by Dorothy Dietrich. I don't want to give away anything, so I will just tell you some vague information. The the show starts at 8PM and ends at midnight. It's so packed with activity that the time flies.

Since my wife has been asking about seances for quite a while now, this satisfied her curiosity. It was definitely creepy, entertaining, and a lot of fun.

Since I am posting this on October 29, I would like to give everyone a heads up. They are offering some special FREE SHOWS this week for Halloween. If you are in the Scranton area, or it's convenient to you, you should really consider going. Call for details: 570-342-5555
