STAR TREK
PICARD
A couple of conspiracies unravel on the lap of retired Admiral Jean-Luc Picard and forces him into action.
I don't really consider myself a huge Star Trek fan. I can't quote from the shows. I never even watched most of the various shows or movies. They usually didn't fit into my schedule, so what I missed didn't bother me. However, these new series being offered on CBS All Access are pretty fun for the occasional viewer, like me, since the seasons are pretty short.
STAR TREK: PICARD concluded its first season, which consisted of ten episodes, last week. Apparently, since we last saw our crew of TNG, things have been fraying within the Federation. Anarchy is breaking loose. Tensions remain high with the Romulans. A rebellion on Mars has left synthetic life forms (like Data) illegal. So when a synth, who happens to be the daughter of Mr Data, shows up at Picard's vineyard asking for help, our journey begins.
The season is ten episodes of outstanding story and excellent character development. I really enjoy this format of short seasons that have a beginning, middle, and end because it has a clear point. For the most part, the episodes are nicely polished and have movie quality special effects. The cast is exceptional. You love the good guys and loathe the villains.
Since I wasn't a big fan to start with, I had a little trouble getting to this series, but after the second episode I was definitely drawn in and was looking forward to each subsequent installment. Some people complained that there was sacrilege, as there was cussing in each episode. Not gratuitous, but it was enough for fans who believed that the future would be socialist and without harsh language. If you can survive a few well-placed four-letter-words, there is so much more to look forward to.
Such as: a brooding young captain, a sexy first officer, perfidy, synthetic life forms, Mr Data, Old-Fart Picard, pizza, Number One, assassins, Romulans, Seven of Nine and so much more! There was also an impressive number of really good looking women in this, which surprised me and may have encouraged me to continue watching. The Romulan spy alone is stunning.
But I digress. CBS All Access was giving the show away for free, so why not have a look? I would recommend it!
