The Psychedelic Furs
Made of Rain
After nearly THIRTY YEARS, The Psychedelic Furs have a new record out! (Release date was 07/31/2020). I happen to know one of the band members and he was sending me samples for MONTHS before the record dropped. Since it was tax season I just listened to it without really digesting it. But now tax season is over and the record is available so I have been listening to it in its entirity...
The Psychedelic Furs are:
- Richard Butler – vocals
- Tim Butler – bass guitar
- Paul Garisto – drums
- Rich Good – guitar
- Amanda Kramer – keyboards
- Mars Williams – saxophone
This is the touring line-up for the last bunch of years, and both times I got to see them perform in the NY area. If I am not mistaken, at least half of them have been in the band since the 80s!

- "Don't Believe" – 3:45
- "You'll Be Mine" – 4:48
- "Wrong Train" – 4:13
- "This'll Never Be Like Love" – 5:10

What should you expect from this work? Before listening to it I had some doubts. Some bands lose their way, and don't play well, and dump out unpolished incoherent albums. THIS IS NOT THAT! This is a well-formed, thoughtful, and polished productions. The songs feel current and relevant. A fear is that a band with its biggest days being decades ago, they might be stuck in a time warp. THIS IS NOT THAT! This will play perfectly on any "modern rock" radio station.
If you are aware, when The Psychedelic Furs split up in the early 90s, Richard Butler formed a band called LOVE SPIT LOVE. That work took him in a less poppy direction, and a more mature arena. It feels as though, collectively, they have all matured and created this record.
I honestly had no idea what to expect going into this album but felt greatly rewarded after listening to it. And after having listened to it dozens of times already, Mrs Bax0jayz agrees this is a really great album and worth your tie to enjoy, and add to your collection.
