GUNDAM
Requiem for Vengeance
Season One - 2024
We follow the remnants of The Red Wolves as the Federation pushes Zion off the Earth.
I have been well aware of GUNDAM since the 1980s. Less so for the actual show and more so for the plastic models. I got my start building models "seriously" with anime kits and Gundam was a juggernaut due to it's popularity but not so much for the engineering of the kits. Decades later, after multiple subsequent series, mangas, OVAs, etc, etc the franchise hits American cable systems and builds popularity. Enough popularity was developed that NETFLIX decided to buy a license and take a crack of their own Gundam storyline. That's where we are today...
GUNDAM: Requiem for Vengeace
This is a series told mostly from the perspective of Iria Solari, who is command of the Red Wolves, a seasoned Zaku team well known their battlefield prowess. Zion forces are moving across Romania and plowing through Federation defenses until the "White Devil" Gundam shows up to ruin their plans and helps chase Zion forces off of the planet.
The Good: The animation is pretty good. The battle sequences are EXCELLENT. The plot is coherent.
The Bad. This thing has the distinct NETFLIX flavor to it. Iria Solari is the BESTEST EVAR! The white men on her team were dispatched IMMEDIATELY when the Gundam shows up. The defender of the Earth, Federation Forces, repelling the invading Zion army are made out to be the villains?!?! They didn't even bother with any exposition letting us know what the war was even about.
In general I would call this okay. The animation is pretty good. The animators took extra care to draw a fine ass on Solari and try to get it in as many scenes as possible. That seems pretty tough in a space suit, but they managed it. The battle scenes are excellent. I wasn't thrilled with the way they flipped the good guys. Of course, the bad guys are a bunch of oafish dullards with the home-field and numbers to their advantage otherwise they wouldn't have been a match with the righteous SJW Zion Army with pink hair and eye brow rings and all the skills and not needing no man.
The battles are pretty epic and make the series of six 30 minute episodes worth watching just do yourself a favor and shut it off about 2 minutes before the ending which was some serious cringe.
