TERRIFIER

Art the Clown returns to ruin Sienna's Christmas.
I was planning on stopping with the horror reviews for a bit since I have only been concentrating on that genre for about two months, but since this film is still relevant and we did get around to seeing it in a timely manner I figured I might as well.
This installment in the franchise takes place after the events of TERRIFIER 2. How? you might ask, considering that Art the Clown lost his head in the second movie. This movie, however, puts in the effort to tie together the endings of the first two in an attempt to make some sort of coherent line between the two. In this movie it is fully established that Art is indeed some demon from hell out on this planet to commit mass murder. Of course, while that is being established there is plenty of over the top gore-porn and possibly way too much dull exposition.
The movie has a runtime of over TWO HOURS which a surprise from any horror flick. To be honest, I felt the length of the film actually hurt it with a lot of slow periods that dragged the movie to a screeching halt. My wife and I both fell asleep a couple times while trying to watch this. That should never happen during a horror movie. It just told me that the pacing was all off and this movie needed more polishing. Then again, it's not like the previous movies were all that great either, but I didn't fall asleep during either of them as I recall.
Horror movies have notoriously low standards. Usually the ingredients required are simple: hot chicks screaming, violence, gore, and an unstoppable menace as the villain. If you are one of those who like inventive new ways of executing violence in a horror film, this one might actually have a couple new things for you. All in all I would call this unimpressive. How many times do we have to see Art stop to laugh at people while he's in the process of dismembering them? Meh. Don't worry if you're a big fan. this isn't the end of Art the Clown. They left it wide open for an extremely fourth installment.
