Underworld Stuff

I can't believe how many different editions of the DVD there are.

You have the theatrical release in wide and full screen versions.

Then you have the Director's Cut which has a bunch of added scenes. Most ofthose scenes aren't very noticable except for the love scene between Kraven and Erika, but since they don't include the scene final spurn scene that shows just how dedicated Erika is to Kraven despite all the indignities she suffers as a result of his lust for Selene, the scene really doesn't help, nor hurt the movie.

There was also the Superbit version. I was intrigued and had to find out what that was about. It's the theatrical release remastered to the point that the audio and video are supposed to really top notch and increase the viewing pleasure. Umm. Aren't dvds supposed to be digital perfection? I understand that they might clean up some stuff that there may not have been money for in the orignal production, but hey, is this really necessary? I think they put it out to see if suckers would buy it to see the difference. I'm a sucker. I got it. I didn't see a difference.

Underworld: The Novel of the Movie
I HIGHLY recommend the book. The movie is great but it's even better when you have all those details that the book can provide, that the movie doesn't have time to cover. For instance, the entire thing takes place in Budapest, Hungary.

A great read. Your eyes are glued to the pages. I read slow and I knocked that one out fast.

Underworld: Blood Enemy
A prequel to the movie. This book establishes exactly what started the Vampire / Lycan War as well as some minor skirmish that takes place about a year before the movie.

Why I'm Obsessed with Underworld
Many tales of vampires and werewolves are goofy and corny. They deal too much with mysticism and superstition. Underworld actually finds a way to explain what makes these immortals what they are and how it happens. The explanations are well conceived and make sense.

They have already been filming the sequel for Underworld. It's due in the theaters by the end of this year. I'm looking forward to it.
