Ringers

There's guys in NYC and their job is to sneak into apartment buildings and hand out menus. Usually they drop them in the lobby. Sometimes they even go around and stick them under the doors of all the apartments. In my building it's annoying because, for some unknown reason, they ring the bell for my office to get into the building.

Today I was particularly disturbed by this behavior. I was in the middle of a tax document, the bell rings. The door buzzer is by my ear. I buzz the guy in. Catherine was working on something so I kindly offer to answer the door for her. I open it. There's a guy walking up, he reaches in his bag and hands me a menu for some restaurant.

I fumed.

I was trying to decide whether I should yell at this guy, or open up with immense sarcasm.

I opted for the latter.

"Oh great!" I announced. "I've been waiting for this ALL DAY!" and took the menu and shut the door. The secretary turned around to see me with a menu. We had a good chuckle over this for about a minute and went back to business as usual, but now with smiles.
