A couple years ago a good friend of mine, Patrick, was heading out of the country for a while for med school. SO he was burdened with the task of trying to locate places to put his furnishings and equipment. We didn't have anyplace for his furniture, but I did offer a home for a Yamaha receiver and a DVD player. At the time I didn't have either in the house yet.
Over the time that past I was trying to prepare myself for when he'd want this all back, afterall he gave it to me on "indefinite loan." I kinda figured he'd defer on the DVD player and take back the killer receiver. I mean, they come up with newer and more sophisticated DVD players everyday.
And the call came that he'll be in town in a couple weeks to reclaim his DVD player, and I can keep the receiver.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I didn't expect that one. So I was trying to figure out what I'd get to replace it with. I knew I wanted a "combo drive," that is, DVD and vhs in one unit. I really wanted an RCA since that's what most of my equipment is. Those are nearly impossible to locate. I was only able to find one on amazon.com. So I was in Walmart and Best Buy checking out what they had. Damn if they didn't both have crappy selections. But I went with a Samsung combo on sale for only $100. What was even more interesting was that it takes up exactly the same space as the old DVD player. Ain't technology great?
