Bahamas: The Second Leg

The largest attraction in the Bahamas is the Atlantis on Paradise Island. It's a very large complex with about everything you can imagine at your fingertips... at a price.

We stayed across the street at the Comfort Suites, which partners with the Atlantis, so we got in just the same, for free. Well, not really, the Comfort Suites was pretty pricy in comparison to the Wyndham we stayed at, and it might not have been as nice. The layout of the building was just odd, and mazelike.

So we spent the final five days of our trip there. Most of the time we were at the Atlantis taking in all that it had to offer. There are numerous aquariums and other sites to check out the fish. They even have sections dedicated to Caribbean Lobsters. They are foul looking creatures that look more like facehuggers from ALIEN then something you'd want to see on your plate. Sharks. Conch. Stingrays and even a giant Manta Ray. Marvelous!

We snorkeled on the beach several times. It's rated one of the top five IN THE WORLD. Well, I wasn't so impressed. It was so much better in the Caymans and Culebra. I did, however, finally got to swim with a pod of reef squid. They were fun because they change colors before your eyes. I also got to see a small assortment of small fish.

On the Atlantis grounds you can get lost checking things out. You can find many pools. There's many water rides ranging from calm to crazed. The Leap of Faith is a slide that's almost vertical. It was fun, but too quick. There is a little sting ray pool, and a sea turtle area. We checked up on the turtles several times during our stay. They're good people. ;)

There are many more places to eat on Paradise Island. There were a couple nice little shopping centers within a block with lots of food places. The food at the Atlantis (not the main restaurant) pools etc, were pretty reasonably priced, so you can sit there the whole day, no problem. If you want a little native flavor, walk across the bridge. There's a couple rows of restaurant shacks along the docks. Conch is the main dish, but you can also get fish. I had snapper one night and conch fritters the nest. Both were delicious.

The beer was also very reasonably priced. I had quite my fill while I was there. It was cheaper than bottled water, so why not?

I would say that this was a very nice vacation. Ten days might be a bit long though. It's good we split it up, otherwise we would've been bored to death by day seven. Nice place. The pricetag in the end is pretty high. But we're glad we tried it out.
