Early this morning New York City was removed from the running in the second round of cuts for the 2012 Olympic games. Later in the morning it was announced that London will get the games.
All along I really thought NY would get it. After all, this is the city that the terrorists tried to destroy. When threats are issued, they're directed at New York. Ever since 9/11/01, the entire world (except for the terrorists) has loved and embraced New York. It's been a symbol of strength, and caring and brotherhood. We all pulled together when the chips were down, and the world backed us up.
So this entire Olympic Committee was just a formality to make it seem like it was going to be a fair vote. Afterall, what city can possibly touch the massive meaningfulness of holding an Olympics than NY at this time?
Apparently the answer is London. Dreary, gray, damp, pale, reserved London. (LOLz, no offense to my dear friends across the pond. You know I'm playing. ;) )
I never got around to commenting on this previously, but I did want New York to get this, especially after they said it would come to Queens. During the time the games would be going on, I'd leave my car at home and take the subway. I'd even try to take a route that included the 7 Train so I can see the new complex as I commuted.
But, alas, there shall be no such occurrence. Oh well, I guess Mayor Blumkin, erm, Mike Bloomberg didn't have a sweet enough deal. Maybe next time.
