Death in the family

I wasn't sure if I was going to touch on this. Over the last bunch of days I've been on auto pilot regarding this blog. I have a stockpile of entries saved as drafts and when I don't have as much time I just slap them up.

So I get to my mother's house after work on Friday. She tells me that cousin Jack passed away. I felt bad, but new he was in a better place. He'd been suffering from an arthritic spine for probably ten years. He was able to get around with a walker, but not very well. About a year after my father passed away, Jack suffered a stroke. That ended his walking days. About a year ago he had a second stroke, but this was more massive. It sent his health into a downward spiral. He was in the hospital ever since.

Last week his wife and daughter visited him at the hospital. They were washing him up and asked the ladied to leave the room. Dorothy went for a walk to find the usual doctor. When she came back her daughter Mary had a blank wide-eyed expression on her face.

"Dad just died," Mary told Dorothy, "they were washing him and he just expired." Suddenly. Without warning. Just like that. He was in his mid 70's.

Dorothy was my father's cousin. Jack was her husband and they had two "kids" named Jacky and Mary.

My brother, his wife, my wife and I attended the viewing on Sunday night. I attended the burial yesterday morning.

So long Jack, rest in peace.
