Dinner and a show: July 29th, 2005

So the wife scored some tickets to see the Jackie Mason one-man-show called "Freshly Squeezed." She prefers to schedule these things for Friday nights so we don't have to get up early the next morning. We met by 6:00 or so at restaurant row again. I think that's about 46th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues. We wanted to go back to VITA'S Italian Restaurant. I love good Italain food, and their blue sangria, plus the name lends itself to all sorts of jokes. When we first met, my wife had a friend named Vita. She was a real firecracker. Wild hair. Big tits and fine round ass. So I right away start in with comments like, "I can't wait to get into Vita's" or "I can't wait to taste Vita's" etc. as my wife sits there rolling her eyes.

Well, it's a good time for me!

Anyway, we go to Vita's, and I think we had the same thing we had last time. The wife got the grilled shrimp and I had lasagna. Lasagna is my weakness. If I see it on a menu, I must have it. The food was all good, and the pitcher of Sangria set the pace for a cheerful evening.

We got to the Helen Hayes Theatre at about 7:30. It's on 44th Street, so it was quick getting there. There was no line when we got there, and the show started in 30 minutes! Shortly thereafter a short line begins to grow and they start letting us in. Odd. They let us into the theatre, but not into the auditorium. After the brief wait they start seating people. Even though my wife and I are the first ones in line, one old man saw fit to shove past us to be seated first. Whatever. I guess he's trying to squeeze in as much as he can, as fast as possible as his time left on Earth is clearly short. Once seated I observed the theater. It's fairly small. I can't imagine fitting more than 125 persons in there. The place appears to be well maintained, as the decorative scrollwork was in perfect condition, and no peeling paint, clean carpets, etc...

By 8:10 Jackie Mason takes the stage. He does stand up for about an hour. It was mostly current events, and topical stuff. He killed. I don't think anyone was able to sit there and NOT laugh. Then he took a 5-10 break. Then he came back out to kill for another hour or so. Absolutely brilliant stand-up. My only gripe, he sprays a lot when he speaks. It turned my stomach a little. But I give that show top ratings. Definitely a great time. Catch it while it's still in town, I think it ends it's run in September, 2005.
