Mmm. Pork buns!

My ol' buddy Jeff got my hooked on pork buns.

If you are unfamiliar with a pork bun, allow me to describe this gift from the heavens! Imagine a sweet bread with a pork and gravy center. Almost like a pork jelly doughnut. If you've never had one, the concept is vile. I know I thought so in the beginning.

Jeff offered them to me on many occasions when we would head off to the hobby conventions. It just sounded so unsavory and I always declined. But one day while I was working at the old candy store the boss, whose name was also Jeff, came in with a sack of various Chinese baked goods. All kinds of yummy treats baked into fluffy sweet breads. Frequently we had eggs, or ham & eggs, or typical breakfast types of food. They branched out. Cucumber buns. Cream buns. Coconut buns. Then finally the pork and shredded pork buns. I was in heaven.

But it got better when I would visit my dear friend Jeff. Around the house he always had stockpiles of these treats, but they were better! His father searched around Main Street, Flushing for the best deal on the best tasting pork buns. I would never be so presumptuous to ask for a pork bun, but I NEVER turned one down if offered.

SO now that I've changed my driving habits, I find myself in Main Street, Flushing rather often, and having the pork buns more frequently. There's a nice little bakery at the corner of Roosevelt Avenue and Main Street. They make great iced coffee, and their baked goods are just fine. But not as good as the ones that Jeff has. I can never get tired of those. I'm getting hungry thinking of it now...
