Morton's of Chicago

This is a brief tale of a bachelor party, a steak place, and a ten dollar tomato!

A very dear friend is getting married. Bryan. I remember his family being in that house about as far back as I can remember. As children we played all sorts of Star Wars games and stuff. I kinda remember ending up hurt a lot, but Bryan and Jimmy were significantly older than I am, so I guess it's to be expected.

So Bryan met a sweet girl and decided to settle down. Wedding bells in the future means bachelor party. Bryan wanted steak, so they chose Morton's of Chicago on Northern Blvd in Great Neck.

I get to the place over half an hour late. I may get into the reasons for the tardiness in another blog entry. Anyway, I was kinda not in the best frame of mind for a jovial evening. Things were less than perfect that day, a death in the family, and my stomach was a bit upset. All that put together adds up to a less than spectacular evening.

Morton's. This appears to be a type of high end, high priced chain restaurant for steaks. Everything is a la carte, which means that they charge you for every single thing you touch. For my appetizer I got their beefsteak tomato salad. The way they described it it sounded delightful, and possibly quite large. It hit the table. One large beefsteak tomato sliced and placed on top of a single leaf of romain lettuce with a large dose of blue cheese dressing on it. It tasted great, but that tomato cost $10! We have those growing in our garden. For the same price I could pick up a pile of plants and have dozens of tomatoes!!!

Then came the entree and vegie. I chose the filet mignon and grilled asparagus. The beef was delicious, as were the vegetables. But they drizzled balsamic vinegar over the asparagus, which gives me an upset stomach. Wonderful.

All in all, Morton's is a nice clean place. Great service. Great food. Very high prices. I doubt whether I'd ever go back there again.
