I always found the tale of the Phantom of the Opera to be charming. Another Beauty and the Beast concept, and it works.
Usually.
In 1989 a version was brought to the screen starring Robert Englund, best known for his Freddy Kreuger roles, as the Phantom.
The story is shaky at best. Christine is sucked back in time from present day New York to 19th century London. The horror quality of the film is crude and rather boring. The acting is lack luster. The only reason I kept watching was to see a young Bill Nighy as Barton.
Actors with no charisma playing uninteresting characters yields a movie not worth wasting your time one. See the musical, it's far more entertaining.
