The ravaged South

It's been days since Hurricane Katrina did her worst to the Gulf States of the US. Matters in those places affected have only gotten worse. In fact there appears to be a state of lawlessness in New Orleans now. A group of rescuers trying to evacuate survivors from the Superdome were shot at. Umm. Don't they WANT to be rescued?

Then I hear that since all the waters have risen so much that all those nasty creatures from the neighboring swamps are loose in the city. Creatures like alligators and water moccasins aren't making matters better.

They're expecting thousands dead when all is said and done. It'll be 3-4 months before anyone is let back into the city. It'll likely be years before everything is set straight again. It's a shame.

I was also planning a trip there in October. That's certainly not happening now.
