Quote of the meeting: With so many hot guys in the BPMS, I'm surprised we don't attract more brawds.
I usually don't go into my hobby stuff too often here as I have plenty of other outlets for it, but last night's Brooklyn Plastic Modelers Society meeting was a biggie and no one really gives personal observations of what they see going on.
The November meeting is generally a round up of sorts. We conduct quarterly contest and the November meeting is the final installment. Usually guys work hard for this this contest to rack up extra votes and claim some extra hobby cred.
Also the Super Raffle takes place. For each new model presented you get one chance in the big drawing. Usually it's a lot of tools and supplies, but kits and books also show up.
This was really an off year, with the model count below 150. We've had banner years of more than double that. So the officers thought it would be prudent to scale back on the prizes. Is there really any fun if each ticket has a 75% chance of being a winner? Regardless of that thought process a bunch of very generous members donated a lot of goodies for the raffle. Of the 5 tickets I had I hit 4 times, of course I rejected a couple of the prizes and let them ride for other members who might be able to have some fun with them. What will I do with a couple Harriers anyway?
At one point it was noticed that a fairly new member, Kay was winning a lot of goodies (we watch your tickets even if you're absent, the goods are in my trunk). Someone actually forgot who Kay was. I reminded him, "You know Kay, she's the ONLY female BPMS member now." The group took a moment to ponder this and, ultimately and collectively agree on that fact. At which point I took the opportunity to seize some sarcasm with the quote at the top of this blog entry. The BPMS is a nice bunch of guys, but none of us look like Brad Pitt... except for me, maybe. LOLz ;)
So the pic you see at the top is my latest work. It's a "non-scale" Zaku II. I came up with the desert paint scheme thanks to an idea from a friend, Winston, from Canada. After I took the pics I noticed one of the missile straps popped off. I'll patch it up and post more pics soon.
