Last week when they first started making threats that the TWU planned to strike, I had a sinking feeling. Keeping in mind that my office recently set up telecommuting, I decided to be ready. I started bringing work home by the end of last week and Monday of this week so that if there was a strike, I can still get stuff done and not worry about getting into the city.
So yesterday I got more work done over the course of the day than I could when dealing with the incessant interruptions by clients at the office.
Now we're into day two of the illegal strike. The union president is blaming the MTA, mayor, and governor for the strike because the union's demands aren't being met. The sticking points: new hires should be entitled to the same pension benefits as current employees; new hires will have to pay in towards their health benefits, eg. copay; retirement age of 55; the union wants a 24% raise over three years, not the 10.5% offered by the MTA.
I keep reading polls saying that more than 2/3 of New Yorkers are against the union's demands, however, on TV and the papers they only show the people who are sympathetic to the union's cause.
I'm sorry. Don't feel sorry for these jokers. The NYC Transit workers all make more than $25/hour. They are FAR from impoverished. They have some of the highest salaries in the entire city. They have nothing to whine about, but they are GREEDY. They see that the MTA has a budget surplus and they want all of it. Bastards. Greedy scum.
At least the union's being fined millions of dollars every day for disobeying the court order and going on this illegal strike. In addition the city plans to sue the union to recover costs related to this crisis. I hope the union is bankrupted and forced to fold because of their greedy ways. Phukkers.

Oh yeah... don't be a sucker and think, "OMG... those poor TWU workers.", bah, they make more money than you think. Why else the MTA keeps losing money? It's because the TWU are basically "thugs" extorting for their own benifit. I'm also hearing how people has sympathy for the workers and think they're not doing anything wrong. F*** YOU! Those knuckle heads are costing the city 10 million dollars a day for extra police, traffic control, and emergency management. And this doesn't include the lost wages and extra expense it's costing you for their little strike. I'm not saying strike is wrong, I'm saying it's wrong to strike if it screws everyone else that's not actually suppose to be involve in your stupid problems.
