I knew I wanted to see Clerks 2, but I wasn't sure if it would be any good. The original movie CLERKS was perfection and one of my favorites of all time. Since then Kevin Smith has gone on to make several not so great films. Could he possibly rekindle the magic of his first charming foray into film?Within the first moments of Clerks 2 I could see that all the potty humor and difficulty of life as a store clerk will be shown again, but with polish and more of a foul impact. Usually when something has a foul impact, it's not good, but that's what makes Clerks 2 great.
Here's the concept: Dante and Randall end up working at burger joint called Mooby's after the stores where they worked in the first movie burned down. It's Dante's last day in New Jersey before he heads south to Florida with his fiancee who seems to come from a rich family. Over that last day the usual Clerks hijinks ensue. Jay and Silent Bob are doing their thing. Jason Lee shows up. Ben Affleck shows up. A new character named Elias works with them and is a huge Transformers and Lord of the Rings fan, and ends up going toe to toe against the Star Wars loving Randall. And then there's the whole subject of ass-to-mouth etiquette that we're introduced to Becky, Rosario Dawson, by way of. She's their boss, and it appears she's in love with Dante.
This is the twist in the plotline.
I will not divulge anything else from this movie, other than this addition to the View Askewniverse had twists and turns and went places I never expected it to, and it had a happy ending! That's right, it doesn't have that bleak ending like Dante referred to in the original Clerks, Life is a series down endings like in The Empire Strikes Back. At the end of Clerks 2 you see your beloved clerks doing what they seem to be fated to do, but with hope for the future and a smile on your face.
Bravo, Kevin Smith! You did good with this one! And why Joel Siegal walked out during the donkey scene, when there were so many more offensive scenes than that, I have NO idea. What a bitch!
