In the Cinema: You, Me and Dupree

This must be a new record for us. Two weeks in a row we got to see movies in their opening weekend. Generally we prefer to wait at least a week or two for the audiences to die down so we may get the seats we prefer without having to be the first ones allowed into the theater. Alas, theaters seem to be running movies at inopportune times and the only flick that fit our schedule was You, Me and Dupree.

This is a comedy, and by far, Dupree (Owen Wilson) is the main reason to see this. He's funny, clever and charming. Which is the polar opposite of Carl played by Matt Dillon. Dillon was wooden and uninteresting leaving the big huge question mark as to why would a yummy tasty cutie pie like Molly (Kate Hudson) go for a mannequin like this? Now try to fill two hours with a lot of disjointed scenes and Dupree's antics and there's your film. In fact, at about 90 minutes in I found myself scratching my head wondering where this was all leading? Right about there it all falls into place, and speeds mercifully into the predictable happy ending.

If you like Owen Wilson, you'll find this up to par. If you like Kate Hudson, she was adorable, yet sultry in this, so you'd find it worthwhile. If you like a lifeless uninteresting block of wood, then you'll LOVE Matt Dillon. And finally, if you like mindless comedy, then here's a long one for you. You'll laugh and it will keep your attention. Don't expect this to win any awards though. It needed some polishing.
