Daily Trivia:
What famous writer, when he was an editor at a major publishing house, rejected Thor Heyerdahl’s Kon-Tiki?
William Styron—before becoming a best-selling author. His assessment of the adventure classic was: “This is a long, solemn, tedious Pacific voyage best suited, I would think, to some kind of drastic abridgment in a journal like the National Geographic.” Styron later immortalized his bad judgment by having the narrator of his novel Sophie’s Choice repeat it.

Bobby,

Thank you so much for posting the trivia about Kon-Tiki. My book, "Voyage of the Manteño," which is about my experiences building and sailing balsa rafts, has just come out and I have received a couple of reviews that are almost precisely the same as Styron's. What's so wierd about it is that I frequently receive comments from strangers who say that they could not put it down, and yet Kirkus reviews called it "monotonous."

Anyway, thanks for your posting.

PS I am a modeler as well, but with The Expeditions, I rarely have the time, which is a shame.
