Turtle Thursday: Terrapins are thriving on Long Island

We got a note from a local conservation center over the weekend. They had opened up for people to come and observe the wildlife at their preserve on Long Island.

Wild animals. Great. We'll consider it. It warms the heart knowing that wildlife is being cared for so close to home. No one thinks of the New York area as being home to beautiful wild animals.

But wait! There was a picture of a couple turtles swimming. They looked like Diamondback Terrapins! The caption read:

Diamondback Terrapins:

Once endangered, now thriving!

Well, I can see dbt's thriving in my basement anytime, and I can play with them, too! (Two of my dbt's, Silent Bob at top and Dante to the right, are shown thriving!)

This is very heartwarming Bob and yes, I never really knew Long Island as a place for wildlife either. Next time I'm in the area, I'll have to check it out as well as pay a visit you you and your turtle gang, if you're around. last time I was in NY, I had the worst poison ivy ever (last summer). Been avoiding woods and trails lately.
