My wife and I have been to Jamaica previously, so we wanted to try this side of the island on this trip.
FIRST AND FOREMOST: Negril is one and a half hours drive from the airport in Montego Bay. For some reason people keep saying it's only 20 minutes, IT'S NOT! Kingston Airport would be even farther by a lot. Don't even think about landing there if you want to go to Negril.
We arrived in the lobby in the afternoon. The place was spotless and pretty. We noticed immediately this is a small complex and we were fine with that. We were quickly checked and and escorted to our room. It was bigger than I expected and clean. If you had any needs, eg. need extra towels, a brief call would have it to your room within moments.
The grounds are meticulously kept.
The dining area is outdoors. They use a buffet style. There are specific times for eating meals. Since this resort is pretty small, the food selection reflects that. They can't have 80 dishes for each meal when there are less than 50 rooms in the complex. But they do manage to have something for anyone.
The bar is open from 10AM to 10PM. The selection of booze is slightly limited, but the bar staff is friendly and very accommodating. If they don't have what you are looking for, they know what you might be interested in.
The pool and beach are kept clean. The only problem with the beach is that it's public as are all the beaches along the strip. Anyone can walk anywhere along the beach including the droves selling there wares. Until you are "marked" with a red, yellow, green, black bracelet, everyone takes turns trying to sell you stuff. Some is welcome to see, like local fruits which are delicious. Some are not so welcome, like the drug dealers. The good thing is that resort security will step in and run the hawkers off if they start getting too fresh.
The only bad thing, which had nothing to do with the resort, is that it was apparently jellyfish season. We went on a snorkeling excursion at a coral reef and then stopped at Half Moon Beach. The numbers of jellyfish at the reef made me a little uncomfortable. We even saw them at our resort in rather shallow waters. We were also interested in snorkeling further out in the waters by our resort, but there seems to be a travel lane for water vehicles out there, and we didn't feel like getting run over by boat, so we stayed within the roped areas.
Asa whole, it was very nice. We were there for 8 days. had it been longer we might've gone crazy because there's nothing to do on the grounds other than swim, read and relax. I did plenty of all of those. It was rejuvenating. I have to thank Mrs. Bax0jayz for getting this all together. I'll have pics up in the near future.
