On CD: Trapt LIVE!

I gotta say, I was never really a Trapt fan. I heard that huge single of theirs on the radio and kinda shrugged my shoulders over it. My wife and I even got to see them perform live years ago; they were opening up for Evanescence. I remember that I wasn't too impressed with their onstage show. The levels were off and when the sound isn't great, you really can't appreciate a band.

So I was a little surprised to open the mail one day only to find, of all things, TRAPT LIVE! I relaeased an exasperated sigh and was about to toss it in the trash, the last thing I really wanted to spend ANY time on was a live recording from Trapt. However, for some reason, I felt compelled to hold onto the CD and tossed it in my briefcase.

As it so happened I had some spare time this evening and decided to let this disc spin. Much to my surprise, this was an enhanced CD, I'm kinda used to these preview editions to be rather stripped down. I even got one that cannot be played on a computer, but that's neither here nor there. The enhanced portion started to load up. The video for Stay Alive comes on. On my overwhelmed work computer, it turned out a little choppy, but the video was definitely very cool, and the song, was GOOD! I liked it; it was fun!

Intrigued, I moved on to the musical tracks. The first track, Stay Alive (which appears to be the single) and Everything to Lose are both new studio recordings. Both are good songs and very listenable. Tracks 3 - 11 are recorded live. I was prepared for poor production on these, recalling the time I saw them. I was pleasantly surprised. The songs are all very well recorded and very clean. It's very nicely produced especially for a live recording.

So, in the end, I'd have to say this was an album that far exceded my expectations. If you like Trapt, you will love this, and if you were iffy about them, you might still give this a second look. If you didn't like them, like me, it might not change your opinion, but certainly did not reinforce my previous notions.
