Trivia
Why was the first boardwalk in Atlantic City built?

  • To keep vacationing beachgoers from tracking sand into local hotels. The wooden boardwalk, built in 1870, was a mile long and eight feet wide. It linked the beach with the town and could be dismantled and stored in sections during the stormy winter months. The first permanent boardwalk was built in 1884.
