Happy Birthday Clive!

Today one of my drumming heroes has a birthday, Clive Burr, formerly of Iron Maiden, turns 51. His style of drumming was energetic and fun, and perfectly in tune with the brand of heavy metal that the band was playing. He didn't just pound on his drums, he was a very talented percussionist whose drumming style helped to define that Iron Maiden sound in the early days of the band. Try listening to these tunes: Phantom of the Opera, Murders in the Rue Morgue, Ghenghis Khan, etc.
Clive left the band after the third record "The Number of the Beast" and the "Beast on the Road" World Tour, making way for current drummer Nicko McBrain.

Clive hasn't been in action in a number of years due to MS.

You can read more about this great drummer here:

It's funny, 'cause I was never much of a metal guy, but when I saw Maiden live, about ten years ago, I was floored at their performance. The energy was insane. Not sure if Clive was still with 'em at that show though.

Hi Cara! Thanks for dropping by.

Hi Steve, yeah, Maiden knows how to put on a great show. Clive left the band in the mid-1980's. The drummer you saw was, most likely, Nicko McBrain. He's also a great drumming talent.
